Vintage Turquoise Brooch from Jerusalem
This piece was picked up by a little lady named Aunt Virginia. We have acquired and nice collection from her and her mother's estate. Virginia picked this beautiful triangle brooch up when visiting Jerusalem back in the 1980's. It is 10k gold over fine silver with four cabachon cut turquoise stones accenting the center. The pin and latch are NOT solid gold, but gold tone and in perfect working order. This would have been a tourist piece sold at the entrance of a synagogue, museum or historical attraction. The gold has some tarnish to the back with very little to the front, I chose to leave to enhance the fine detail work and age of the item. The stones are glued in place with the center turquoise surrounded by petal like accents. The turquoise is bright powder blue with almost no veining and in excellent condition.
The upside down triangle has many meaning, but as this item was purchased over seas in Israel I believe it was meant to symbolizes one of the first meanings on record, that our good deeds go up to heaven and then are activated to flow goodness back down to the world, which is symbolized by the triangle pointing downward. A wonderful little piece that would make a perfect scarf brooch or an beautiful adornment to a jacket, hat or bag. I might add a nice symbol for a wedding as well.
